Small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS; drones) for mapping and classifying vegetation patterns and processes on peatlands
Jonathan Millett & David Graham
In brief my research will centre on the use of sUAV’s to study upland peat ecosystems.
What inspires you?
Some of my earliest memories are enjoying playing and exploring woodland. As a child I was always outside and away from people as much as possible. As I learned more I realised there was always more to learn, which inspired me to study forestry, and then ecology.
Prior to my PhD study I studied completed an MA in photography and a BSc in Environmental conservation and previous to this I studied forestry. I also had a 10 year career in the Royal Air Force.
Why did you choose Docotoral Research?
I simply love the university environment and wanted to push myself to see how far I could take my studies.
Why did you choose a CENTA Studentship?
I was particularly attracted to the support and extra-curricular activates of CENTA.
What are your future plans
I hope to take the knowledge and experience gained during this project and use it in the future to help guide and educate others as a university lecturer.
