What is a Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP)?

The PhD training landscape is changing.  Research Councils in the UK are now directing the majority of postgraduate funding into Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs).

DTPs are block grant awards made to consortia of research organizations, moving away from the old systems of allocating doctoral studentships to individual university departments. A primary aim of this change is to better meet the strategic goal of creating and supporting vibrant, integrated research communities; for enriching the student experience and to encourage knowledge sharing and interconnectivity. Crucial to this aim is to work with a diverse range of industries, businesses, NGOs and policy makers.

CENTA is a consortium of Universities and research institutes that are working together to provide excellence in doctoral research training within the remit of the Natural Environment Research Council.
